The front foyer of the Winnipeg Art Gallery is looking festive after a local couple donated a silver spruce.
The tree was donated by Frank and Sophie Czayka and sits in the WAG’s Eckhardt Hall. It was cut down to 20-feet to fit in the building, and will be the focus of the activity at the WAG’s annual tree-trimming party on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m.
“We planted the tree 28 years ago when our daughter was born,” Sophie Czayka said. “We love it but at 50 feet it was just getting too big. It blocked the sun on the garden and the view and the light from the living-room window. We had offered it to the city but it wasn’t suitable for them so we were very happy when the WAG called about it.”
Sunday’s activities will include a visit from Santa, live seasonal music, holiday games with the WAG elves, hot cocoa and cookies, and Christmas tree ornament decorating for kids. Admission is free.
