Winnipeg Mardi Gras is February 15-16 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. (HANDOUT)

The sights and sounds of Louisiana will once again fill the Winnipeg Convention Centre in the new year.

Winnipeg Mardi Gras is making a return February 15-16, 2013. A surefire way to beat the winter blues, the two-day party will include C.J. Chenier and The Red Hot Louisiana Band, along with authentic southern food, such as freshly shucked oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, and melt-in-your-mouth alligator fritters.

Other entertainment featured will include aerial acrobatics, stilt walkers, showgirls, drag queens, the colossal man, living statues, hula hoopers, strolling Dixieland Band, Silver Elvis, and more.

Tickets to the 18+ event are $16 at Ticketmaster. The party will run from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly.

A portion of tickets sales will benefit JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
