A new film set to debut on television this week will look at the history of the Winnipeg Tribune newspaper.

“The Trib: Story of An Underdog Newspaper” examines the historic newspaper, which was founded in 1890 by L.R. Richardson and D.L. McIntyre who scraped together $7,000 to take over the press and premises of the old Winnipeg (Daily) Sun.

The film was produced for MTS TV and will premiere on Thursday, December 6. A special screening of the 24-minute film will run Wednesday, December 5 at the University of Manitoba’s Elizabeth Dafoe Library at 2 p.m. Manitoba filmmaker Paula Kelly will introduce the film at Wednesday’s sneak peek, being held on the library’s third floor.

The Tribune ceased publication in 1980.
