Icy roads and driver negligence are being blamed on a multi-vehicle crash on the South Perimeter Highway Saturday morning.
As many as eight vehicles were involved, including a semi-trailer truck, in the westbound lanes of the Perimeter between St. Mary’s Road and Pembina Highway just before noon. RCMP had traffic blocked for about 90 minutes while the scene was cleared, as westbound traffic was diverted on to St. Mary’s.
No serious injuries were reported, but at least one person was sent to hospital in unknown condition.
Within city limits, police were responding to several minor fender-benders and single-vehicle collisions.
About five centimetres of fresh snow fell on Winnipeg early Saturday, which tapered off by the afternoon.
