Eight Charged with Impaired Driving in First Week of Check Stop Program

Winnipeg police have released results of the first week of their festive season check stop program.

Officers stopped 767 vehicles and issued 24 traffic-related tickets since December 3.

Seven alcohol-screening tests were administered, and eight drivers were charged with impaired driving and/or refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

Three 24-hour suspensions were issued, while five drivers were suspended.

One warrant was executed and one person was arrested under the intoxicated persons detention act.

The program runs throughout the holiday season until Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
