Man Dies in Head-On Crash Near The Pas

A man was killed Friday afternoon after a head-on collision just north of The Pas.

The crash happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Highway 10 when a GMC pickup truck drifted into the oncoming lane of a northbound Ford pickup truck.

The driver of the Ford was found deceased at the scene. Both drivers needed to be extricated from their trucks.

The 44-year-old man driving the southbound vehicle was taken to The Pas Health Centre in stable condition.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the collision and RCMP continue to investigate.

The roadway was reopened to traffic at about 9:30 p.m.

UPDATE: Thursday, December 27 — The driver of the GMC pickup truck, 44-year-old John Anthony Ducharme of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and driving while prohibited. Further charges are anticipated.

The deceased driver has been identified as a 63-year-old man from Shoal River First Nation. His name will not be released.
