What’s Open and Closed During the Holidays

City of Winnipeg civic offices
Closed at 12 noon on Monday, December 24 (Christmas Eve), and closed all day on Tuesday, December 25 (Christmas Day), and Wednesday, December 26 (Boxing Day). Civic offices will also be closed on Tuesday, January, 1, 2013 (New Year’s Day).

Recycling/garbage collection
Recycling and garbage cart collection on Monday, December 24 and Monday, December 31, will not change.

No collection on Tuesday, December 25 and Tuesday, January 1. This will set collection back one day.

So for those residents that normally have collection on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, please put recycling and garbage carts out one day later.

For apartments with front loading collection bins
Collection will be either the day before or the day after the statutory holidays.

Brady Road Landfill
The only changes to the regular hours of operation during the holidays are:

  • Tuesday, December 25 — Closed
  • Tuesday, January 1 — Closed

Let’s Chip In Christmas tree recycling depots
Residents can recycle their real Christmas tree by dropping it off at any of the 11 Let’s Chip In depots, open from Thursday, December 27 to Sunday, January 20. Please remove all tinsel, decorations, plastic bags, and tree stands. Free wood chips will be available at all Let’s Chip In depots in early January (while quantities last). Please bring your own container.

Residents are reminded that trees placed beside recycling or garbage carts will not be collected.

Winnipeg Transit Holiday Service Schedule
Winnipeg Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule for the following days:
Tuesday, December 25 and Tuesday, January 1.

The following routes will not be operating December 24, 27, 28 and 31:

  • Route 25 Ness Super Express
  • Route 41 Henderson/Glenway Express
  • Route 46 Transcona Express

Winnipeg Transit and Manitoba Public Insurance are offering free transit service on Monday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve).

Libraries, leisure centres, swimming pools, the Animal Services Agency, cemetery offices, and the Winnipeg Parking Authority will operate during various hours over the Christmas break. For exact dates and times, consult Winnipeg.ca or call 311.

Manitoba Liquor Marts
December 24 — All Liquor Marts will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
December 25 — Closed
December 26 — Open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
December 30 — Open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
December 31 — Open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
January 1 — Closed
