The Christmas Cheer Board was facing a $50,000 shortfall on Thursday in seasonal donations, but thanks to the support of a generous couple from Sagkeeng First Nation, the charity will remain in the black.
Kirby and Marie Fontaine — who won $50 million in a Lotto Max jackpot in November 2009 — heard about the Cheer Board’s dilemma and called executive director Kai Madsen.
The couple visited the Ellice Avenue warehouse on Thursday to make the hefty donation.
The Cheer Board still expects more donations to come in before the end of the year. More than 15,000 hampers were delivered to deserving families across the city this year.
