A deceased man on Black River First Nation is the province’s first homicide of the new year.
Manitoba RCMP were called to a residence at about 2 a.m. Tuesday where they found the victim. His death is being treated as a homicide.
RCMP and the Winnipeg forensic identification unit are investigating.

UPDATE: Wednesday, January 2 — The deceased has been identified as Peter Richard Bird, 25, of Black River First Nation. Two local men, Jason Moar, 20, and Brandon Bird, 21, have been charged with second degree murder. The victim and both accused were known to each other. The cause of death is being attributed to a stab wound.
