One man is dead and another is facing second-degree murder charges after a dispute on Long Plain First Nation.
RCMP were called on Wednesday evening and found a man deceased in the community southwest of Portage la Prairie. Police spent all day Thursday at the scene and blocked road access surrounding the area.
The deceased has been identified as a 24-year-old Portage la Prairie man. His name isn’t being released.
Cody Alexander Schmidt, 21, of Long Plain First Nation has since been charged and will appear in Portage la Prairie court on January 7. Two other men, aged 20 and 47, were taken into custody, but released without charge.
The investigation is continuing.
