The federal government is investing over $100,000 into the Transcona Nationals Football Club.

The funds, announced by Elmwood— Transcona MP Lawrence Toet on Thursday, will go toward the installation of field lighting, as well as exterior upgrades, including window replacement to the clubhouse.

“The Transcona Nationals Football Club is very grateful for this opportunity to develop our football club with the addition of new field lighting,” said past club president Cori Knapp. “The field lighting will allow us to offer safer practice times to our young athletes and enhance the development of all minor and midget football, by scheduling evening games during the season and allowing quality practice space for both the under 16 and under 18 provincial programs.”

Effective January 1, the football club named Steve Hoel as its new president.
