The city is relocating the Windsor Park Library to the Bonivital Pool site.
Councillors Dan Vandal and Scott Fielding made the announcement Tuesday at the pool, which will see the new larger library built at the multi-use facility.
“Our library redevelopment strategy calls for the replacement of some of our older libraries, like the existing Windsor Park Library, with modern new facilities that are better able to accommodate community activities and programming,” Fielding said.
The $4 million, 8,000-square-foot library will be built to modern green energy standards. Construction will begin this year with completion scheduled for 2014.
Once finished, the library will include a multi-purpose programming room, tutorial rooms and space for a collection of approximately 35,000 items. There will be increased computer access, public study and leisure space for patrons. The new library will also accommodate parking for up to 40 vehicles.
The city also announced that the 50-year-old St. Vital Library will undergo major renovations this year at a cost of $1.8 million.
