The Salisbury House restaurant on the Esplanade Riel pedestrian bridge has closed its doors for good.
The locally-owned chain served its last meal December 31 after the City of Winnipeg decided to not renew their lease. Sals had occupied the unique location between downtown and St. Boniface for the past seven years.
The location will be a challenging one for any business owner, as the bridge sees less foot traffic in colder months than in the summer. There’s also the obstacle of no parking, with visitors forced to either park at The Forks or on Provencher Boulevard and then walk over.
Last weekend, the city starting promoting an expression of interest (EOI) for new tenants to occupy the space. The deadline for proposals is January 31 at 4 p.m.
