Former Winnipeg Jet Dale Hawerchuk was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on Saturday night.

Winnipeg South MP Rod Bruinooge made the presentation to the Barrie Colts coach prior to puck drop at centre ice between the Colts and Peterborough Petes.

“Dale Hawerchuk continues to give back to Winnipeg through his Annual Charity Golf Tournament and helping the Jets with their selection of Mark Scheifle,” Bruinooge said. “What makes Dale so deserving of this honour is that he was not only an amazingly talented player and skilled coach, but he shows tremendous class and is a wonderful role model as well.”

The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne, and to honour Canadians who have made a tremendous impact on the country.
