Local students will put their culinary skills to test in a cook-off competition today.
The third annual Localvore Iron Chef Cook-Off is being put on by Food Matters Manitoba at Winnipeg Technical College’s Henlow Campus.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., students from Elmwood High School, Garden Valley Collegiate, Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre, Maples Collegiate, Miles MacDonnell Collegiate, Sisler High School, The Learning Centre, William Morton Collegiate Institute, and Winnipeg Technical College will be competing.
The cook-off is a way to create dishes that celebrate year-round local food, while bringing together youth, farmers and chefs from across the province.
Emcees for the competition will be Chrissy Troy from 103.1 Virgin Radio, Ben Benton from Savour Winnipeg, Wolseley MLA Rob Altemeyer, and Kirsten Godbout from Diversity Foods.
Dishes will be judged on their taste and presentation at the end of the day.
