Public Safety Minister Vic Toews encouraged employers on Friday to apply for funding to hire young workers during the summer months.

The federal government has opened the application process to award financial support through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Students will benefit from finding work in small, medium and large-sized businesses.

“Our government’s top priorities are job creation, economic growth and long-term prosperity,” Toews said in Winnipeg. “Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping Winnipeg employers create meaningful summer job opportunities for students, while strengthening our community’s economy.”

Employers can apply online at servicecanada.gc.ca/csj2013 or print an application from the website. They can also get an application by visiting any Service Canada Centre. Applications must be submitted between February 1 and February 28, 2013.
