Dust off that curling broom and prepare to sweep your way to victory, the 12th annual Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel begins today.
Taking place on the carefully groomed ice surface of the Assiniboine River Trail, the three-day event will see teams compete in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
The weekend event is made up of both men and women, young and old, who want to experience curling in a unique setting on a naturally frozen section of river ice. Participants from across North America will be competing in the not-so-serious “FUN-raiser,” as organizers have been calling it.
Matches will be held in The Forks’ Historic Port, and also at the foot of the historic Granite Curling Club just west of the Osborne Street Bridge.
A schedule of playing times can be found at IronmanCurling.com. The bonspiel ends on Sunday, February 10.
