A new website to highlight historic Manitoba documents and photos was launched on Monday.

Manitobia.ca is a “resource-rich website that highlights the role of our province in the early history of the country,” said the University of Manitoba, which partnered with the Manitoba Historical Society to launch the site.

The website boasts digitized versions of some of the province’s most historic documents dating back to the 1880s. A public launch was held at the Manitoba legislature with Lt.-Gov. Philip Lee in the historic reading room.

“Thanks to the preservation efforts of the Manitoba Legislative Library and the University of Manitoba Libraries, Archives & Special Collections, this project makes an incredibly valuable historical resource more readily available to students, historians, genealogists, and researchers and all those who seek to discover who we are by learning about Manitoba’s past,” said Gordon Goldsborough of the Manitoba Historical Society.
