Skaters enjoy the Assiniboine River Trail at The Forks (CHRISD.CA FILE)
Officials at The Forks will reassess the Assiniboine River Trail today after closing it on Sunday due to rising surface water levels.
Earlier in the day, the trail was closed from The Forks to Queen Elizabeth Way, but was shutdown completely about four hours later.
Mild temperatures, paired with the recent opening of the Shellmouth Dam as a winter release in Western Manitoba, hasn’t made conditions on the trail ideal.
However, skaters can still enjoy the ice on the Red River, as well as the two rinks in The Forks’ Historic Port.
Updated conditions are available on the River Trail’s website or on Twitter.
