Winnipeg will host the 52nd International Association of Women Police (IAWP 2014) Conference next fall.
Made up of approximately 600 delegates from around the world, the conference will take place in September 2014 and is designed to celebrate the growing numbers of women in law enforcement as well as attract a new generation of women to the field of work.
The Winnipeg Police Service, Royal Canadian Mounted Police “D” Division and Brandon Police will act as the host agencies for the event.
To support the conference, several fundraising initiatives are in the works, including “Forces of Fashion,” a fashion show event planned at the University of Winnipeg on Friday, March 8 to coincide with International Women’s Day. The show will highlight policewomen uniforms — past to present — of the host agencies, as well as contemporary business fashions from The Bay downtown.
Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by contacting iawp2014@winnipeg.ca. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the fashion show beginning at 8:30 p.m.
