A new kindergarten to Grade 12 school will be built in Thompson to support French language education.
The Manitoba government announced Friday the school will accomodate the growing need for French-as-a-first-language in the northern community within the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM).
“This new school will provide students with a quality education and a comfortable learning environment,” Premier Greg Selinger said. “It will also serve as a focal point for the thriving French community in Thompson to meet and gather.”
The school will be located on Weir Road near the site of the Norplex Pool Recreation Centre, with construction starting this spring. The first students will begin attending classes by the winter of 2014.
The Public Schools Finance Board and the DSFM will continue to work closely on the final design.
