Cockrell, Macaulay Named Bisons’ Athletes of the Year

University of Manitoba BisonsManitoba Bisons volleyball player Rachel Cockrell and hockey player Blair Macaulay have been named 2012-13 Bison Sports Athletes of the Year.

The awards were handed out Saturday during the Bisons annual Brown and Gold Year-End Banquet held at the U of M.

Cockrell, also named the team’s MVP, is the 21st player to be named with the honour from the volleyball program, which continues its dominance in the annual accolades.

Team MVP Macaulay marks the 16th time that a men’s hockey player has won the yearly honour and in the last nine seasons, four men’s hockey players have been picked as the top Bison male yearly honour.

On Thursday, the University of Winnipeg announced women’s volleyball player Ozana Nikolic and men’s wrestler Briston Brenton were chosen as the 2012-2013 University of Winnipeg Wesmen Male and Female Athletes of the Year.
