Nick Ternette (UWINNIPEG.CA)
A tribute concert for Winnipeg community activist Nick Ternette is planned for Sunday, April 7.
Ternette, a longtime civic activist, passed away earlier this month at the age of 68.
The all-star concert will be headlined by local musician Fred Penner and be held at the West End Cultural Centre at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
“Rebel Without a Pause: Celebrating Nick Ternette” will fulfill one of Ternette’s wishes — that the people of Winnipeg enjoy a free concert while reflecting on the causes he fought for all his life.
Other performers include Adi Sara Kreindler, the Winnipeg Labour Choir, pianist Yvette Berger, and folk-singing duo Harry Havey and Karen Dana.
Donations will be accepted for the Ternette Memorial Fund. All donations will fund projects related to social justice, community development, urban politics and ecology.
