A shed at the former home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers caught fire Tuesday evening, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air around the Polo Park area.

Firefighters were called at about 7:45 p.m. to put out the blaze. There were no reported injuries.

According to officials, the shed contained propane tanks as well as football field turf.

The Blue Bombers moved from the stadium to their new home at Investors Group Field in January, where they’ll play the upcoming CFL season.

A portion of Empress Street was closed to put out the fire at the southeast corner of the stadium.

Arson investigators are trying to determine a cause. Damage is estimated at $300,000.

A short time later, the Red Lobster restaurant on Portage Avenue just south of Polo Park Shopping Centre was evacuated after a reported fire in one of the washrooms. No word on a cause.
