A singing competition for students learning French as a second language is being held this weekend at the l’Université de Saint-Boniface.
Festival JAM runs today and Sunday and takes a page from “American Idol” with auditions, judges, a live band and cash prizes. The third place winner will take home $250, second place wins $500, and the participant named Jeune artiste du Manitoba wins $1,000 and the opportunity to professionally record the song they’ve competed with.
Students aged 11 to 19 are competing who are currently enrolled in basic French or the French immersion program.
The general public can attend the live finals for Festival JAM on Sunday, April 7. Admission is free and doors will open at 3:30 p.m., with the event getting underway at 4 p.m. Everyone in attendance can enter a free draw to win a 64 GB Apple iPad.
