A three-year-old girl drowned Tuesday after she fell into a pond of water southwest of Winnipeg.
The incident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. in an area just east of Kane, Manitoba.
RCMP say the child was playing near her home with other children when she wandered off and fell in. The girl was pulled out of the water but was unresponsive. CPR was performed and the child was taken to Morris Hospital where she perished.
An autopsy will be scheduled in the coming days, but foul play is not suspected.
Police are reminding the public about the increased water hazards around ditches and ponds this time of year as the spring thaw occurs.
