Vacant Boyd Avenue Home Destroyed by Fire

A vacant home at 630 Boyd Avenue was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon.

Emergency crews arrived shortly before 4 p.m. to find the 1 1/2 storey home completely engulfed in flames. Fire spread through the main floor and eventually to the attic. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to put out the stubborn blaze, but contained it from spreading to neighbouring structures.

Damage is estimated at $175,000. There were no injuries and the cause remains under investigation.

Three 14-year-old youths who were seen in the area before the fire are being sought by police. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6813 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
