RCMP Crest LogoA 12-year-old girl was rescued from fast-moving water on Saturday in the RM of Ste. Rose du Lac.

RCMP say the girl and her father were travelling in their vehicle at around 10 p.m. when they crossed a low level on a rural road that had gone underwater. The vehicle became stuck and the girl was swept downstream. Firefighters found the girl clinging to a tree as ice chunks moved past her. The father was found on the vehicle’s rooftop.

Rescue crews were up to their necks in water when they made it to the girl and pulled her out. Two firefighters, the girl and her father were taken to hospital for treatment of various stages of hypothermia.

Numerous roads across the province were either closed or washed out over the weekend due to overland flooding.
