New School Planned for South Pointe Neighbourhood

April 30, 2013 12:40 PM | News

The Manitoba government is building a new early learning to Grade 8 school in South Pointe.

The Waverley West school will accommodate 600 students when it opens in 2016 and be built on 8.8 acres at the southeast corner of Waverley Street.

“This new school will offer a high-quality education in French and English, closer to home for families who are raising their children in this rapidly growing area,” said Premier Greg Selinger. “This school will be a focal point for families in Waverley West and will help reduce class sizes for students in nearby schools, giving our children more of the attention they need.”

The school — located within the Pembina Trails School Division — will also house a new 114 child-care centre where young children will receive early learning programming.

Selinger said the final cost of the school hasn’t been finalized, but estimated it at between $26-$30 million.
