Bombers to Introduce Security Wands at Investors Group Field

May 8, 2013 9:50 AM | Sports

Winnipeg Blue Bombers LogoThe Winnipeg Blue Bombers will soon be searching you with wands.

As part of the new security measures for Investors Group Field, security wands will now be the primary screening device at every Winnipeg Blue Bomber home game.

“We believe we have taken a balanced approach to security that respects the privacy of fans while still allowing us the flexibility to conduct manual searches should they be required, to guard against the kind of tragedy that can happen anywhere, anytime, as it did recently in Boston,” said Blue Bomber president and CEO Garth Buchko.

Fans will be allowed to bring in an empty water bottle, provided it is under 1 litre. They may also bring a single-serving snack, like a chocolate bar or veggies. Those with medical conditions like diabetes can call the club a day ahead of time to get a special pass if needed.

Fans are not allowed to bring in alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons, fireworks, poles of any kind, flasks, ice bags, ice chests, coolers, picnic baskets, frisbees, playing balls, laser pointers, boom boxes, rollerblades, skateboards, musical instruments, air horns, powered megaphones, pets, or obscene signs or clothing.
