Winnipeg police will be adding 10 more staff members to their ranks.

Premier Greg Selinger made the announcement Wednesday morning at the Public Safety Building in downtown Winnipeg.

The 10 positions include six new officers for street patrols, and 4 more criminal analysts to support the new Criminal Intelligence Unit.

“The funding announcement of four crime analysts will play a vital role in identifying crime patterns and hot spots for our front-line officers,” said Police Chief Devon Clunis.

“The additional police officers and cadets will assist in the service’s vision in creating healthy, safe and productive neighborhoods and communities.”

The new community officers and analysts will be focused on the William Whyte neighbourhood, said Selinger.
