Just in time to remind us of winter, the Assiniboine Park Zoo’s newest penguin exhibit is now open to the public.

African black-footed penguins Tubbs, Sal and Mooshu, were formally introduced to the public Friday and they were wearing their best suit-and-tie to do it.

The trio are part of the grand opening of the zoo’s seasonal exhibit — HUB Horizon Insurance Penguin Cove. Jelly, a fourth penguin, will join up with the group this summer.

“Everyone loves penguins and we know this will be a big draw for the summer,” said Tim Sinclair-Smith, director of Zoological Operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. “There are so many people in this province who have probably never had the opportunity to see penguins up close so we’re very happy to bring this experience to Manitoba for the first time.”

HUB Horizon Insurance Penguin Cove is a seasonal exhibit and will be open until September 30. It can be found within a retrofitted version of the Zoo’s old gift shop. The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
