Students at Oak Park High School in Winnipeg have created an award-winning workplace safety film.

The zombie-themed PSA “Use Your Brains” recently won first place in the Manitoba Safe Work Video Contest and is now a front-runner to be the top Canadian video.

“We’ve been making a big zombie movie at our school, and we learned all about doing zombie makeup, so we figured it would be fun to put a zombie in our safe work commercial,” said student Shannon Pullan, who also stars in the film. “Humour makes people pay attention more. If the video is boring they won’t watch it.”

The more “likes” the video receives, the better chance the school has to win the fan favourite award and a $1,000 cash prize.

In 2010, 1,014 workplace deaths were recorded in Canada.
