Thousands of people streamed into Winnipeg’s new football stadium on Sunday for the first event at Investors Group Field.
The One Heart Winnipeg church service brought out about 15,000 people from congregations throughout Winnipeg and beyond city limits. It was a test for the Winnipeg Football Club to work out any kinks and give the new facility a dry run before CFL action next month.
The event included live entertainment and appearances from a few of the Bombers, including CFL legend and former Bomber Milt Stegall, who delivered a few words before the service began at 1 p.m.
Event staff and Winnipeg police were directing traffic into the stadium along Chancellor Matheson Road, which appeared to be going rather smoothly.
The Bombers host the Toronto Argonauts on June 12 in their first pre-season game at the new $200 million stadium. Songstress Taylor Swift will perform a little over a week later on June 22.
