Ohio Man Jailed for Smuggling Child Porn into Manitoba

CBSAAn Ohio trucker has been sentenced to two years behind bars after smuggling child pornography into Manitoba.

Matthew William Emmerling was attempting to enter at the Emerson crossing on January 17 when his commercial load was referred to a secondary screening. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers located child pornography on a cell phone and two storage devices.

Emmerling was arrested and remained in custody until he pleaded guilty to smuggling on May 21.

On May 30, Emmerling was sentenced in Winnipeg to two years incarceration and forfeiture of the seized evidence.

“Protecting children is an important part of the work of the CBSA and we strive to defend vulnerable individuals through our work,” said Lauren D. Delgaty, regional director general, CBSA Prairie region.
