Sobeys opened its 10th store in Winnipeg Friday morning at 50 Kildonan Green Drive.
Sobeys Kildonan is a 35,000-square-foot store that boasts in-season regionally grown food items and unique foods from around the world. It’s the 16th store in the province and will cater to those living in east Winnipeg. The store is surrounded by new home and condo development directly across from the 55+ Kildonan Green Apartments.
As part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony just before 9 a.m., the grocer made cheque presentations to Winnipeg Harvest and Transcona Food Bank in the sum of $500 to purchase fresh food for those in need.
“At Sobeys we take our commitment to proudly serve our communities to heart,” said store manager Tracey Zyla as she presented cheques. “Both the Winnipeg Harvest and the Transcona Food Bank provide vital services for Winnipeggers in need to access healthy, nutritious food. We are happy to play a small role helping these community-minded organizations reach their goals.”
Sobeys operates more than 1,500 corporate and franchised stores across the country.
