Selkirk RCMP have confirmed media reports that a car involved in a crash that left two teen girls dead was stolen.
Two girls from Winnipeg, one 17, one 18, died on Saturday, June 1 after the vehicle they were driving on River Road near Highway 9 rolled over and hit a utility pole. Both teens died at the scene. RCMP said speed was a factor in the crash, and they have not ruled out alcohol or drugs.
RCMP said Tuesday the car involved in the crash was stolen from a home in the RM of St. Andrews. They said they are also investigating a truck found in the area, a 2005 Chevy Blazer, that was also stolen from the RM of St. Andrews. The two stolen vehicles are likely related, said RCMP, and police are searching for two males who may have fled the scene.
RCMP said there was no indication the vehicles were racing.
