The Manitoba government is funding the addition of five new RCMP officers and transferring over $1 million in seized property to law enforcement agencies to support their efforts and help assist victims of crime.
Premier Greg Selinger announced the new crime-fighting support on Thursday at RCMP “D” Division headquarters in Winnipeg, alongside Justice Minister Andrew Swan and Kevin Brosseau, assistant commissioner of RCMP “D” Division.
“Our RCMP play an important part in keeping families and communities safe, and today we’re ensuring they have more of the tools and resources they need,” Selinger said. “More officers and specialized technologies in the hands of law enforcement officials are another step forward in keeping all families safe.”
The money seized through criminal property forfeitures will be distributed across the province to support the work of law enforcement agencies and victims of crime.
RCMP detachments across the province will receive over $277,000 in grants. RCMP “D” Division has already received $161,840 in grants to purchase new equipment.
