Ground was broken late Friday on the new Seven Oaks Arena in Garden City.
The 100,000-square-foot, $17 million multiplex is being funded by the city, province and Garden City Community Centre board.
“A sports complex of this magnitude requires the combined efforts of so many dedicated members of the community, and the support from both levels of government clearly shows our willingness to partner with communities to bring their goals to a successful conclusion,” said Premier Greg Selinger.
The arena will include a twin rink and multi-use facilities, fitness and retail space, and 3,000 square feet of new programming space on the second floor.
Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2014.
