U of M Band to Play at Bombers Home Opener

University of ManitobaWhen the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take the field for their home opener tonight at Investors Group Field, they will have a special introduction by a 30-piece band.

The University of Manitoba concert band will play a tune that composer John Williams created for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics opening ceremony. The band will play at the north end of the stadium on the patio level at 7:45 p.m.

“We are very pleased to be part of the Bombers’ first season in Winnipeg’s new stadium and feel honoured to have been asked to collaborate,” said Joan Linklater, associate dean of the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music.

The band will continue to share their musical talents at the Bombers’ other home games all this season prior to kickoff.

A 10-piece pep band comprised of U of M music students will also play outside the stadium in front of gates 2 and 3.
