The Winnipeg Art Gallery has reported a $162,419 surplus in its 2012/2013 fiscal year.
It’s the third largest surplus in WAG history, following last year’s record surplus. Art gallery officials contribute the success to its centennial celebrations, which began in September and continue through this December.
Attendance increased to 155,000, including 30,000 to the exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell, the second highest attendance for a specific exhibition in WAG history. The September 27 all-day, all-night birthday party and Nuit Blanche attracted a record crowd of 7,500 people.
The Centennial Ball raised over $330,000, a record for any WAG fundraising event.
