Woman Allegedly Bites Police Officer at The Forks

July 2, 2013 11:32 AM | News

Winnipeg Police CrestCanada Day celebrations turned ugly at The Forks on Monday following the fireworks display at around 11:30 p.m.

As thousands of people were filing out of the venue, a woman driving a Pontiac Sunfire allegedly collided with a young child, but didn’t cause injury. The father of the child confronted the female driver, who allegedly rammed her car multiple times into him in an attempt to push the father out of the way. The man wasn’t injured.

Police were called and asked the woman to pull over and turn off her vehicle. The woman refused, but was unable to drive any further given the magnitude of the crowds.

One of the officers reached into the vehicle to turn the ignition off, at which time the woman bit him, according to police.

The 20-year-old woman was arrested and is facing numerous charges, including assaulting a police officer. A 17-year-old female, who was a passenger in the car, is also charged for obstructing a police officer.

Both were released on promises to appear.
