The body of a pilot who was flying a helicopter that crashed near Gillam, Manitoba on July 2 has been recovered.
The 69-year-old Surrey, BC man was flying the Bell 206 helicopter when it went down in a remote area about 50 kilometres west of Gillam at Gull Lake.
The aircraft was reported as overdue earlier in the day and a search operation was launched with the help of a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-130 from 17 Wing Winnipeg.
Search and rescue crews had a difficult time accessing the remote site, but the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the pilot’s body on Sunday.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and RCMP continue to investigate.
