Owners of vintage automobiles in Manitoba will be able to purchase a new collector licence plate and a newly-developed auto insurance package.

Pending approval from the Public Utilities Board, the new Collector Vehicle Program will reflect the infrequent use of these vehicles and the extraordinary care and maintenance owners provide for them.

“This new program fits the needs of our members and collector vehicle owners across the province,” said Jim Penziwol, chair of the Manitoba Association of Automobile Clubs. “This is a progressive and positive move forward.”

The program will provide comprehensive, year-round protection and go into effect March 1, 2014.

The new collector plate is a throwback to Manitoba licence plates of decades ago, bearing vintage yellow and displaying the phrase “Collector.” Vehicle owners who currently have a personalized plate on their collector car will also be able to transfer their personalized plate message to the new collector plate.
