The University of Manitoba men’s volleyball squad has received commitments from three Manitoban players for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Trevor Klassen joins the Bisons from Briercrest College, while Nick Stewner arrives from Fort Richmond Collegiate, and Steve Goertzen returns after spending two seasons with the Bisons.
Klassen, 23, played as a setter with Briercrest College in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) from 2008-12 and was at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute during high school.
Stewner — turning 18 next month — is a setter and completed his high school career at Fort Richmond Collegiate in 2012-13. Stewner is the song of Bison Sports athletic director Coleen Dufresne.
Goertzen, 23, returns to the Bisons after playing with them during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. In those two years, the 6’7”, 190 lbs. middle hitter best season was his last one when he had 79 kills, 14 digs and 40 total blocks in 37 conference games. He also played in the 2009 Canada Games.
