RCMP Crest LogoA 21-year-old Winnipeg man was killed Monday evening after a head-on crash with a semi truck in Headingley just west of the city.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Highway 1 near John Blumberg Golf Course. RCMP say the man was driving a pickup truck when it collided with the semi being driven by a 33-year-old Edmonton man.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the semi driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was released from hospital and is in police custody.

The name of the deceased isn’t being released and police continue to investigate.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were reopened around 1:30 a.m.

UPDATE: Wednesday, July 24 — RCMP have determined the semi crossed the centre line, colliding with the eastbound pickup truck. Randolf Enns, 33, of Edmonton has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and resisting a police officer. He remains in custody and will appear in court later today.
