Manitoba RCMP have charged one of their own with assault after a prisoner was allegedly mishandled in Flin Flon.
Police say the incident happened August 30, 2012 when a male prisoner was allegedly assaulted by one of the detachment personnel.
An investigation into the matter was launched following the complaint one week later. Manitoba Justice then recommended that charges be laid against the officer involved.
Const. Jamie O’Brien was charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon on July 22. He will appear in Flin Flon court on October 3 and has been suspended with pay.
RCMP are continuing to investigate.
