The province has opened a new child care centre at the Brandon YMCA to benefit families living in the Wheat City.
The new centre doubles the capacity of the Y’s former centre to 48 provincially-funded spaces from 24.
Family Services and Labour Minister Jennifer Howard announced the opening on Friday.
“Families looking for child care want a safe, engaging environment where their little ones can learn and grow. We are responding to this need by creating more spaces and more options for Brandon parents,” Howard said.
A provincial grant of $250,000 allowed for an expansion of the YMCA’s move to a new, larger facility in downtown Brandon. The expanded child-care centre is now able to offer a full-time, hot lunch program and access to a gymnasium to all children in their care.
