CBSAIf crossing the border is in your weekend plans, the Canada Border Services Agency is reminding travellers to arrive prepared when returning home.

The CBSA says vacationers and other travellers heading to the United States should have their travel documents and IDs ready before approaching an agent.

Border traffic reaches its peak in August, according to the CBSA. To help minimize the wait, travellers are encouraged to know their duty limits. A duty and taxes estimator tool is available on the CBSA website.

Last August long weekend, almost 19,000 travellers entered Canada through the Emerson, Manitoba crossing. Monday was the busiest day of the long weekend, where 2,666 vehicles and 6,799 people were processed on that day alone. Last August, approximately 3,500 people entered Canada at Emerson every day.

Border wait times for the U.S. and Canada are available online and on Twitter.
