Winnipeg Police CrestA 10-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle on Wednesday while walking to school remains in critical condition.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m. in the area of Westminster Avenue and Langside Street.

Winnipeg police say the boy had been crossing Langside Street heading westbound when he was hit by a southbound vehicle on Langside.

“It’s difficult when you deal with children in these circumstances where they’ve been injured, and injured badly,” Staff Sgt. Rob Riffel said on Wednesday while speaking at a CAA Manitoba event on school zone safety. “It just illustrates how important a day like this is to make people aware of just how fragile life is.”

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call police at (204) 986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
